Living in Texas has many advantages - no state income tax, low cost of living and an abundance of culture. The disadvantage though are the Spring and sometimes Fall thunderstorms. Being a native Texan I've grown up with them but that doesn't mean that I take them lightly. One of the first applications I looked to find in App Store was a weather radar application for my iPhone. When it comes to thunderstorms, knowing there they are and if they are coming your way is half of the battle. Exact Magic's Weather Radar application proved to be the answer for me. Not only does it provide you with the most current radar information available in your area, it can loop the last five radar images so you can get an idea of where storms are tracking. Couple this with some good user options and a lightweight install size - 1.2MB - you get a great all-around weather application for your iPhone.

Yesterday to much fanfare Google announced the Nexus One - well, officially at least. You have probably seen or read something on it over the last couple of weeks.
Having read several blogs on the Nexus One and some discussion with fellow Mobius and MVPs, my question to you is this: Is the Nexus One impressive or is it over-hyped and tell me why? Send your thoughts to management@clintonfitch.com. I'll post a follow up in a few days (no last names will be used in my post) on what you, the consumers are thinking.

AT&T is in the process of upgrading their 3G networks to support HSDPA and 7.2Mbps downloads. The challenge? Um, it's not available everywhere and won't be until 2011.
"In addition to the HSPA 7.2 software, initial deployment of backhaul is already underway in the six U.S. cities announced in 2009 as initial HSPA 7.2 markets – Charlotte, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, and Miami, with capabilities being turned up on a site-by-site basis beginning last month. Further backhaul deployment will continue in these markets and begin in additional markets across the nation. We anticipate that the majority of our mobile data traffic will be carried over the expanded fiber-based, HSPA 7.2-capable backhaul by the end of this year, with deployment continuing to expand in 2011."

LAS VEGAS, Consumer Electronics Show (CES) – Jan. 7, 2010 – HTC Corporation, a global smartphone designer, today unveiled HTC Smartä, a new type of smartphone that creates a new category of easy-to-use, connected smartphones that are accessible by people all over the world. The HTC Smart will be available this spring across Europe and Asia.
“HTC has always focused on listening to customers and setting the stage for new mobile categories, and HTC Smart is the response to customer demand around the world for an easier-to-use, affordable smartphone,” said Peter Chou, chief executive officer, HTC Corporation. “Just adding a touch interface doesn’t mean a phone is a smartphone. The integration of HTC Sense brings an unparalleled smartphone experience for people looking to do more on their phone.”
Bringing HTC Sense to the Masses
HTC Smart begins with a friendly, compact touch design and integrates an intuitive user experience that is centered around HTC Senseä, an HTC design philosophy that puts people at the center by focusing on three core areas: Make It Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected. HTC Smart enables personal customization of each person’s own phone experience. It also provides a quick and easy way to see what friends are up to via various social networks as well as quickly communicating over the phone, through text messaging or e-mail.
“HTC Smart breaks new ground in delivering the powerful, in-demand smartphone features that consumers want on a more accessible device for global markets,” said Paul Jacobs, chief executive officer, Qualcomm Incorporated. “We are pleased to be supporting HTC as they utilize the capabilities of Qualcomm’s Brew Mobile Platform open operating system to offer high-end capabilities and a compelling mobile user experience at mass-market price points.”
Qualcomm Brew Mobile Platform (Brew MP)
HTC Smart utilizes Qualcomm’s Brew MP, a popular mobile operating system that enables smartphone devices to be offered at more aggressive price points, providing HTC with the flexibility to deliver smartphone features on devices across multiple tiers.
About HTC
HTC Corporation (HTC) is one of the fastest growing companies in the mobile phone industry and continues to pioneer industry-leading mobile experiences through design, usability and innovation that are sparked by how the mobile phone can improve how people live and communicate. HTC Tattoo Review at Tracy and Matt's Blog
![]()
Over at Tracy and Matt's Blog there is a new review of the latest Android-based phone from HTC, the Tattoo. The Tattoo is a powerful little device with a 528MHz processor and 256MB of RAM/512 of ROM. It is a quad-band GSM phone so it will work here in the US with no problem, just no 3G support from either AT&T or T-Mobile.
The review has plenty of information on the device including the HTC Sense user interface.
