Facebook launches touch focused website

Facebook has launched a new mobile website that is optimized for touchscreen.  The new site has bigger targets for touching, making the mobile experience a bit better for users than the old mobile site, http://m.facebook.com.  While the old site isn't going away, the new site should make it easier for users for users to navigate.  The new touch website is http://touch.facebook.com

This new site is a welcome sight for Windows Phone users.  The Facebook app for Windows Phone is not very robust and is still pretty buggy.  This should make life a bit easier.

Official NASA app for iPhone is awesome!

Last week NASA launched their official app for iPhone and it is spectacular!  The app, free for download, allows you to access current and past mission information, view images and video from certain missions and gives you the latest news from the space agency.

If you are a NASA fan (one of my best memories was when my parents let me stay home from school to watch the very first shuttle launch) then this is an app you need to go get.

Forza Motorsport 3 Released for XBox

Microsoft Releases Forza Motorsport 3

REDMOND, Wash. — Oct. 27, 2009 — Just five months after its unveiling at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) in Los Angeles, Microsoft Corp. and game developer Turn 10 Studios are waving the checkered flag. “Forza Motorsport 3,” the next iteration in the Xbox 360-exclusive famed racing franchise, is now available at U.S. retailers.

“The reviews are in. The wait is over. The definitive racing game is here,” said Phil Spencer, corporate vice president of Microsoft Game Studios. “The passion and automotive expertise of our team at Turn 10 is evident in every track, headlight and lug nut in ‘Forza Motorsport 3.’ This is the game for anyone who loves cars, regardless of age or skill level.”

In addition to the immense roster of more than 400 cars and 100 tracks available in the game right out of the box, players are also being treated to included Game Add-on content. Available in every new package via a one-time-use Xbox LIVE token, the Motorsport Legends Pack delivers the ’60 Dodge Charger, the ’57 Ferrari 250 Testa Rossa and eight other classic racers and roadsters, as well as two extra tracks, all hand-selected by the team at Turn 10.

Currently the highest-rated racing game on either the Xbox 360 or the Sony PlayStation 3, “Forza Motorsport 3” features high-definition graphics, full-body and mechanical damage, rollover physics for each car, as well as true-to-life detailed cockpits, making it one of the most beautifully realistic racing experiences of all time.

“It’s a very real experience,” said pro Formula One and American Le Mans Series driver Stefan Johansson after getting some extended hands-on time with “Forza Motorsport 3.” “I got back in my old R10 Audi, and both the graphics on the track and the feel of the car were absolutely incredible — every bump, every braking point is in the exact same place.”

“Forza Motorsport 3” is not just for racers and drifters — painters and tuners are also invited to hit the garage with the game’s deep Livery editor. Taking advantage of more painting tools and tuning options than ever, Import Tuner magazine is further fueling the creative fires by tapping into the “Forza Motorsport” community to help design a paint job in-game that will appear on a real-life, fully upgraded, track-ready 2009 Nissan 370Z.

“‘Forza Motorsport 3’ is connecting car lovers and gamers all over the world,” said Import Tuner editor in chief Carter Jung, “What better way to continue to stoke those passions than by giving this creative community the opportunity to design something virtually that will live, race and compete in the real world?”

Players who want to take advantage of this unique opportunity to see their in-game creation come to life can share their design with Import Tuner for consideration via the magazine’s “Forza Motorsport 3” Storefront by Nov. 30 by visiting the Import Tuner blog at http://blogs.importtuner.com/index.html. The Import Tuner Nissan 370Z will also be on display at the SEMA Auto Show in Las Vegas Nov. 3–6 in the SPEC Clutches and Flywheels booth (24523).
“Forza Motorsport 3” is rated E (Everyone) and is now available worldwide for $59.99 U.S. ERP (Standard Edition). A Limited Collector’s Edition is also available exclusively at GameStop in the United States for $79.99 ERP. More game information, screen shots and gameplay videos can be found at http://forzamotorsport.net or http://www.xbox.com/forza.

The TouchFLO3D Authority - Pocketnow.com

I am increasingly becoming of the opinion that the #1 authority on TouchFLO3D and all that implies is Brandon Miniman over at Pocketnow.com.

Every day on Pocketnow.com there is a new video, post or article about TouchFLO3D or some particular aspect of it.  It is quite impressive to say the least.  Some of the reviews cover aspects of TouchFLO3D that aren't out and available yet while the majority cover how to do things within TouchFLO3D on your device (or a newly released device).

If you have any thoughts or questions about the HTC user interface, head over to Pocketnow.com.  Chances are you will find your answer.

MobilityMinded discusses Windows Mobile 6.5 on the HTC Snap

My good friend Remo Knops over at MobilityMinded has published a great article on the newly released Windows Mobile 6.5 upgrade for the HTC Snap.

The Snap has become Remo's primary device and he has stated from the very early days that he loved the device.  When the Snap's 6.5 upgrade was released he was one of the first to get it loaded up.

The results?  He seems pretty positive about the upgrade although he's not exactly thrilled with the browser behavior (he discusses that in the article).

As you would expect, Remo has plenty of screenshots to go along with the review so you will get a good feel for how things look on a non-touchscreen device.

Review of Airport Maps for iPhone

I have said it before but I'll say it again:  I travel a lot.  While my travel in 2009 has been cut back significantly, I'll still reach my status level with American Airlines and with Hilton Hotels.  In fact, as I write this, I'm in a Hilton hotel in Baltimore, MD.  Traveling a lot means that I'm in airports a lot.  This isn't a problem when I'm in my home airport, Dallas/Fort Worth International, but does become a challenge when I'm in a new airport that I haven't been to in a while or for the first time.  Where do I eat?  Where is the Admiral's Club?  Where is the nearest bookstore?  Sure I can look this up in the terminal but having it with me all the time, especially if I am having to change terminals, is much more convenient.

AT&T Announce the HTC Pure and HTC Tilt 2 Windows Mobile 6.5 Phones

08.10.09

AT&T* and HTC Corporation, a global designer of mobile phones, today announced the upcoming availability of the HTC Tilt™ 2 and the HTC PURE™ with Windows® Mobile 6.5. The HTC PURE delivers a touch screen experience in an alluring, compact form factor, and the HTC Tilt 2 features the convenience of a tilting touch screen combined with the practicality of a slide out full QWERTY keyboard.

Powered by the nation's fastest 3G network and the Windows phone platform, the HTC Tilt 2 and HTC PURE deliver an enhanced TouchFLO® 3D interface on a large vibrant touch screen that makes navigation intuitive and rich while enabling smooth access to desktop like web browsing. Both devices embody HTC's approach to put people at the center of the communications experience by providing full access to voice, text, or email in a single contact view, regardless of whether voice, text or email was used. This view can be accessed from the contact card or in the in-call screen during a phone conversation, ensuring the latest conversations are always at hand.

"As one of the first carriers to support Windows Mobile 6.5 in the U.S. and the largest distributor of Windows phones worldwide, AT&T has a long history of leadership in smartphones and Windows Mobile," said Michael Woodward, vice president, Mobile Phone Portfolio, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. "Twice as many smartphone users choose AT&T over any other carrier and the HTC Tilt 2 and HTC PURE will lead our Windows phone lineup into 2010."

AT&T will support Windows Marketplace for Mobile in 2009 for access to a variety of applications on new AT&T devices, including the HTC PURE and HTC Tilt 2. Additionally, AT&T customers' purchases from Windows Marketplace can be added to their monthly statements. After Microsoft delivers Windows Marketplace later this year for other versions of Windows Mobile, AT&T will make it available to customers using those versions.

Windows Mobile 6.5 received several upgrades that enhance ease-of-use, such as a touch-friendly user interface and improved browser with Flash support. Content and applications are just a fingertip away on the redesigned Start Menu and Internet Explorer Mobile will support the rich experiences that many Web pages offer for desktop computers.

"AT&T and HTC have a long history of innovation with Windows phones," said Andy Lees, senior vice president of Microsoft's Mobile Communications Business. The HTC Tilt 2 also features a 3.2 megapixel camera.

HTC PURE
Leveraging HTC's TouchFLO 3D experience, the all touch screen HTC PURE offers an advanced touch experience that is optimized for one-hand use, which further evolves the compact smartphone design. With a crisp advanced five megapixel auto-focus camera with video capture, expandable memory, gravity sensor and an ambient light sensor, the HTC PURE brings many of the most sophisticated features to a broad consumer audience looking for the professional benefits of a smartphone, without sacrificing size, looks or functionality.

"The HTC Tilt 2 and HTC PURE are not only powerhouse devices, they also provide a natural simplicity in the way we communicate with the people in our lives whether through voice, text or email," said Jason Mackenzie, vice president of HTC America. "Our desire is to put people at the center of every mobile experience, and we are pleased to work with AT&T, who shares this common vision."

Microsoft MyPhone down today

08.10.09

Microsoft's online backup solution for Windows Phones is down today.

Visiting the MyPhone site will lead you to a page which states the following:

During this time, you will be unable to access the My Phone online portal or synchronize changes on your phone. Be assured, the data that you have already synched will not be impacted. When the service resumes around 3pm (GMT) on Tuesday, October 6th, there will be a number of exciting new features, so be sure to check them out by returning to this web site.

I can only assume they are getting ready for the Windows Mobile 6.5 launch tomorrow and that MyPhone will RTM and not be in Beta any longer.
