Pizza Hut iPhone App worth $1 million - in sales
If there was any question or doubt that a services company could benefit from having a mobile app, let the folks at Pizza Hut eliminate that doubt for you. Their mobile app, which was developed by imc2, has generated an impressive $1 million dollars in sales since it was released 3 months ago. Now there is no way to know exactly how much more business the app generated for Pizza Hut but it is clear it generated some new business that they wouldn't have gotten otherwise.
I've used the app personally and it is a breeze to use - makes ordering a pizza no matter where you are easy.

iPhone now makes up 33% of the touchscreen market
This tidbit comes from Electronista...
The iPhone according to comScore, makes up 32.9% of all touchscreen phones in the United States. What's even more scary, the next closest competitor is only 8.7% of the market.
Scary much?
It is clear that the iPhone has become the standard for everyone. Now it is just a matter of who will compete with them. Will it be Motorola and the DROID or will it be HTC and the HD2? It's a great question and even more fun to watch!

Link Love: Review of Shape Service's Business Card Reader on Gear Diary

My good friend Wayne over at Gear Diary has posted a great review of the new Business Card Reader application for iPhone from Shape Services. The app uses your iPhone's camera to snap a picture of a business card then translates that card and puts it into your contacts. Does it work?
Wayne gives a lot of detail in the review, providing plenty of screen shots and some of the highlights and not-so-highlights of the application.

HTC HD2 coming to the U.S. in early 2010!
TAOYUAN, Taiwan – November 4, 2009 – Today, HTC Corporation chief executive officer, Peter Chou, joined Microsoft Corp. chief executive officer, Steve Ballmer and Harvey Chang, chief executive officer of Taiwan Mobile to announce the availability of the highly anticipated HD2 in Taiwan. HTC and Microsoft also announced that the HD2 was available in Europe and would be coming to the United States with a major US carrier in early 2010.
“The HD2’s amazing customer experience is a testament to the close partnership between HTC and Microsoft and we’re excited to be bringing the HD2 to Taiwan, Europe and the United States,” said Chou. “The HD2 is the first Windowsâ phone with HTC Sense, an HTC user experience focused on making the phone more simple and natural to use and by enabling people to personalise their mobile experience in their own unique way.”
“Working with HTC, we’ve delivered great phones that help customers connect to the people and information they care about, wherever they are,” said Ballmer. “The HTC HD2 shows what’s possible through our close partnership with HTC and it breaks new ground for Windows phones by delivering a beautiful multi-touch screen that people will love.”
The HD2 is the first Windows phone with HTC Sense, a customer experience focused on putting people at the centre by making their phones work in a more simple, natural and personal way. With its industry leading, high-resolution, 4.3-inch capacitive touch display, the ultra thin HTC HD2 delivers more visible content in a sharper, brighter and richer way.
The HD2 uses the first capacitive touch display on a Windows phone to make viewing, zooming and resizing websites, Microsoft Office files, PDF documents and pictures easier with just a pinch of your fingers. The large display also enables faster, more efficient and accurate typing using the onscreen keyboard. Utilizing Qualcomm’s new 1Ghz Snapdragon mobile processor, the HTC HD2 offers enhanced performance that improves the speed of applications, videos, games and more.
Developed with a passion for enhancing people’s lives through innovation, design and ease of use, HTC Sense is rooted in three fundamental principles of Make it Mine, Stay Close and Discover the Unexpected.
Make It Mine
The HD2 continues HTC’s drive for personalization by reflecting not only what you want on your phone, but also where you are. Using its large 4.3-inch window-like display, HTC has brought a new dimension to weather with a localized, animated weather experience that utilizes HD2’s entire display without being invasive to your important content and information. The HD2 can also be further enhanced to reflect your needs and style by downloading a wealth of applications at the new Windows Marketplace for Mobile.
Stay Close
The HD2 helps you stay close to the important friends and colleagues in your life with HTC’s people-centric communication approach that provides a single contact view that displays individual communication snapshots of your conversations with the people in your life regardless of whether a call, text, Facebook status update or email were used. While in the midst of email exchange with someone you can easily transition to a call by pressing the call button. HTC has also included a new Windows-based version of its Twitter application, HTC Peep. The pictures you take with the 5MP camera can also be quickly shared via Facebook or Twitter.
Discover the Unexpected
With the HTC Sense experience, the HTC HD2 includes a variety of enhancements that expand and improve the overall phone experience. The HD2 includes a variety of sensors including a proximity sensor that is used to prevent false screen touches when the phone is picked up to answer or make a call. A light sensor automatically adjusts the brightness of the display. Leveraging its 3G broadband connectivity, the HTC HD2 also offers personal Wi-Fi anywhere for your computer or other devices.
Also available for the HTC HD2 is the optional car kit that automatically transforms HD2’s user interface into a finger friendly in-car navigation experience for driving.
Windows phone
As a new Windows phone, the HTC HD2 showcases the powerful messaging, browsing and productivity capabilities delivered by Windows Mobile 6.5. Offering a best in class e-mail experience complete with the ability to synchronize with Microsoft Exchange, you have the ability to check and manage multiple email accounts. Microsoft’s new My Phone service enables you to automatically back up and synch photos, music, contacts and text messages for free from the HD2 to the web.
Availability
Already shipping in Europe, the HTC HD2 is now available with Taiwan Mobile and will be available throughout Asia in the coming month. The HD2 will be available in the US in early 2010.

Review of TaskTask for iPhone
Task management, be it for work or home, is a critical part of most people's days. Knowing what you need to get done and for whom not only makes life a lot easier, but it also helps cut down on life's little surprises related to "oops, I forgot that!" The iPhone does not have a native task management application, a significant drawback in my mind. Fortunately there are several task applications available in the App Store, my favorite being From Ryan Gregg. Gregg's TaskTask allows you to synchronize your Tasks from Exchange to your iPhone and allows you to edit, complete and create new tasks. All that you do within TaskTask is synchronized back to Exchange, keeping your task list in perfect shape. TaskTask is well worth the $4.99 price of admission.

Shop at Target? There's an App...
Some of the big news floating around the interwebs this morning is that WalMart released their 1.0 version of their iPhone App. Personally I'm not a big fan of WalMart but I am of Target. So I did a bit of digging and BLAM! There is a Target app!
The app, in version 3.1.1 now, gives you weekly sales information for your area, helps you find products in various categories or departments and can help find the closest store to you. Even better, it support landscape mode - one of my pet-peeves with many apps these days.
The app is free in the App Store

Apple announces over 100,000 apps now available in the App Store
I've been an iPhone user for about a month now. The platform is okay. The device is okay. But the ecosystem around it is unbelievably good. This is why this device is so popular. There is, literally, an app for everything it seems.
Apple confirmed this morning that there are now over 100,000 apps in the App Store. Amazing!
CUPERTINO, California—November 4, 2009—Apple® today announced that developers have created over 100,000 apps for the revolutionary App Store, the largest applications store in the world. iPhone® and iPod touch® customers in 77 countries can choose from an incredible range of apps in 20 categories, including games, business, news, sports, health, reference and travel. App Store users have downloaded well over two billion apps, continuing to make it the world’s most popular applications store.
“The App Store, now with over 100,000 applications available, is clearly a major differentiator for millions of iPhone and iPod touch customers around the world,” said Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “The iPhone SDK created the first great platform for mobile applications and our customers are loving all of the amazing apps our developers are creating.”
“The App Store has forever changed the mobile gaming industry and continues to improve,” said Travis Boatman, vice president of Worldwide Studios, EA Mobile. “With a global reach of over 50 million iPhone and iPod touch users, the App Store has allowed us to develop high quality EA games that have been a huge success with customers.”
“With 10,000 downloads a day, worldwide customer response to our I Am T-Pain App has exceeded our wildest expectations,” said Jeff Smith, CEO of Smule. “The App Store has given us a unique opportunity to create and grow a very successful business, and we’re looking forward to an exciting future.”
Apple continues to improve search and discovery with new features including Genius for Apps, App Store Essentials selections, sub category listings and more valuable customer reviews. With the recently introduced iTunes® 9, it’s also now easier than ever to organize and sync your apps right in iTunes and they will automatically appear on your iPhone or iPod touch with the same layout.
The release of iPhone OS 3.0 this summer made over 100 new features available to iPhone and iPod touch users including Cut, Copy and Paste; MMS; landscape view for Mail, Text and Notes; stereo Bluetooth; shake to shuffle; parental controls; automatic login at Wi-Fi hot spots and Push Notifications. These new features have been incredibly popular with customers and there have already been more than two billion Push Notifications sent to apps available from the App Store. Additionally, the recently introduced In App Purchase feature for free apps means leading developers will now be able to offer customers the choice of buying content, subscriptions and digital services from directly inside their apps.
Apple ignited the personal computer revolution in the 1970s with the Apple II and reinvented the personal computer in the 1980s with the Macintosh. Today, Apple continues to lead the industry in innovation with its award-winning computers, OS X operating system and iLife and professional applications. Apple is also spearheading the digital media revolution with its iPod portable music and video players and iTunes online store, and has entered the mobile phone market with its revolutionary iPhone.
